Microsoft soon to unveil free anti-virus program
Bad news for Symantec and McAfee: Microsoft is currently testing a Beta version of its anti-virus product with their own employees, and is planning to soon make a trial version available online. The long term goal being to provide Windows users with free computer virus protection and internet security.
The service has received the codename Morro (after Brazil's Morro de Sao Paolo Beach), and if successful would have devastating effects on PC Security Experts McAfee and Symantec who generate billions of dollars through their anti virus program sails and subscription fees.
Both Semantec and McAfee have experienced drops in share prices recently as Symantec shares fell 0.5 percent on Nasdaq and McAfee 1.3 percent on the New York Stock Exchange.
